Blog Post Assignment #5

The iSchool Initiative are created by Travis Allen and his group and he show his idea about "iSchool", a American future education system in this video. He argued public education system is broken and needs to be change ad technology belongs in our class room. First, he show the system of "iSchool". It is so simple. Hs imaging school is no textbook, no paper, no extensive copy machine, no a number of pencil. Second, he tell us iSchool apps which will be used by teachers, students, and parents in the system. For example, the apps include email, chemical touch, U.S constitution, world Wiki, U.S.A presidents, star walk, formula,  recorder, scientific calculator, graphing calculator, notes, calender.
He tell us many advantages of "iSchool". First, the system help students learn and understand what they learn more easily and manage own schedule such as assignment due days, school event, and test days by the use of these apps. The system make connection among parents, teachers, and students. Second, he tell us "ischool" will take lower cost than public education system and it helps students and school.
However, he tell us challenge to create "iSchool" system. it is making the connection between cooperation, business professional, and apple iTouch programmers and They come together to revolutionize education in America.

2. Eric Whitacre’s Virtual Choir

I love this video!! Word is not enough when I watched this video. This video is amazing, excellent, and unbelievable. This video was composed by Eric Whitace and 185 singers are gathered from12 countries like Austria, England, Canada, the United State, Germany, New Zealand, Spain, etc.I am impressed that 185 singing voices match up precisely although just each individual sings in a front of a computer. What a beautiful! I think technology such as computer connects various people even if they are in different places and it creates  opportunity to make new things which I can not think and believe. I knew we have more various possibilities when I watched this video. I am grad to watch it.

3. Teaching in the 21st Century

This Video is created by Kevin Roberts and he tell us the teaching at the 21st century. I think that he argues teachers has to change their teaching which they have taught based on Bloom's Taxonomy. Bloom's Taxonomy is more than one type of learning and identifies three domains of educational activities: cognitive(knowledge), affective(attitude), and psychomotor(skills). Actually, I have learned based on Bloom's Taxonomy and I was not interested in studying except my favorite subjects. I do not know whether this teaching style is wrong or not but I appreciate what I was taught by educators based on Bloom's Taxonomy because I could get skills to remember, understand, apply, analyze, evaluate, and create. I think it is important and fundamental  for students to live and work in the world. I think just 21st century teaching can not make students get these skills. However, most of students can not be interested in learning which was taught based on this teaching and it goes against Kevin's idea of engagement. In contrast, students may enjoy to learn by the use of technology tools in 21st century teaching.
He show the difference between entertainment and engagement. He tell us engagement is for learning, has long-term results, is meaningful and application, is solving problems, and is using the creativity of the participants. I think that educators can engage with their students when they teach by the use of technology such as iPod, computer, and cell phone based on 21 st century teaching such as linking, searching, blogging, posting, editing, networking, etc. However, it is difficult because educators master how to use them and how to teach students how to use them, so educators keep studying the tools and how to teach them.

4. The Flipped Classroom

Katie Gimbar:  Why I Flipped My Classroom

Dr. Lodge McCammon: Dr. Lodge McCammon's FIZZ - Flipping the Classroom

Ms. Munafo: Flipping the Classroom - 4th Grade STEM

Ms. Gimbar, Dr. McCammon, and Ms. Munafo explained how to flip in classroom. Teachers have students at various levels, so it is difficult for them to teach students on each level. They teach them at middle level. As a result, children at higher level do not challenge, children at lower level can not remediate effectively. Additionally, we do not have enough time for effective differentiation because 90% of class time spends on delivery and review of content and 10 % of that spends on application which depends on students' application outside of class. Therefore, we need flipping approach. Flipping is innovative approach to classroom instruction.
In Why I Flipped My Classroom, Ms. Gimbar explained flipping allows students to preload content which they will learn in classroom, pause, rewind, and re-watch video at any time, post questions for classmates and teacher, and make self-paced. InFlipping the Classroom - 4th Grade STEM, in addition, Ms. Munafo said It allows direct instruction to take place at home and homework to take place at school, so students can prepare back knowledges, questions, and problems and teachers provide application for all students. Teachers use the flipping approach because it can bring students to the next level. Students can use technology at home and have fun and interest for studying. All children at various levels can be reached because they know what students needs, review, extend knowledge, project based on learning.
I believe that flipping is useful for students to make their classroom lessons effective because it can allow them review contents which they will learn before class, give enough time to learn, and share questions and problems with classmates and teacher and solve them immediately. However, I think teachers should organize flipping well because students will be confused if flipping system is wrong. Lower level students needs more time to learn and study and more simple explanation for contents. Students may not use it if flipping is hard to understand.

C4T Post #2:

9TH – 12TH GRADE SEARCH LESSON

Mr. Jeff Utecht introduced search lesson plans in his blog: K-2 Lesson Plan, 3-5 Lesson Plan, 6-8 Lesson Plan, and 9-12 Lesson Plan.
In this lesson, educators will focus on the following two ideas: domain extensions and the Google Search Syntax 'site' and finding current research. To find current research, he fully explained how to narrow down student's research by date on Google. Google allows students to set a date range using the menu on the left side under "Show Search Tools" and they create a custom date range. By the use of the 'site' and the date range, they can get the results they want because these two very powerful filters. He provided homework as a part of lesson plan and example of research.

Project # 5: My Life in the US

Blog Post Assignment #4

Podcast improves children' skills!!

People can download a lot of files such as photos, musics, and video on web across the Internet over the world by "podcast." Podcast is one of digital media. They can more enjoy their life if they use podcast. In the US, educators tend to use the podcast to teach students in elementary school.

The Langwithes Blog is the online hub for Silvia Rosenthal Tolisano. She is a world language teacher, a technology facilitator, and 21st century learning specialist. I read three posts in the Langwitches Blog,  The Digital Learning Farm & i Pad AppsLangwitches-1st Graders Create Own Read Along Book and Langwitches - Podcasting With 1st Grad.

In The Digital Learning Farm & i Pad Apps, she uses The Digital Learning Farm Concept to plan projects or look to reinforce certain skills and literacy.

In Langwitches-1st Graders Create Own Read Along Book and Langwitches - Podcasting With 1st Grad, I knew students can get a variety of skills by using podcast. She let her students use technology tools such as recording program and use podcast in class.
In First Graders Create Own Read Along Book, she reads textbook for her 1st grade students to learn language. She records her students' interview on each chapter and she records the interviews of all chapters, so she creates a little booklet (podcast) for them, so they can listen to the podcast and follow along. After listening to the podcast, she asks them the experience. In Podcast With First Grade, her students read a textbook in the class. First, they read a chapter  once and then they discuss what happened on the chapter as they are reading. They record the process in which they questions about it for them and they answers it. The recording and interview are rotated by all of them. Additionally, they edit the record, so they can create podcast. After reading the two Langwitches Blog, I am favorably impressed by her teaching style. I think she can combine literacy classes such as reading and writing and technology tools such as iPad, and computers well in a new way. Her teaching make her students get skills of literacy and using technology. In other words, her students can not only get skills of reading, speaking, listening, comprehension, storytelling, performance, voice acting, oral fluency but also use media and technology tools well through her teaching. Additionally, the students enjoy participating the class and learning.

Blog Post Assignment #3

1. Peer Editing

What is Peer Editing? &
Peer Edit With Perfection Tutorial show what it means to peer editing and how to do peer editing. This video explains how to do peer editing by sounds and exact outline while This power point elaborates on it with more examples.
This power point provides me practices to peer editing to improve my skill to peer editing. Writing Peer Review Top 10 Mistakes shows me elementary students provides wrong examples of expression to peer review. I could learned what is wrong advise and how I should how to tell my classmates to change their writing better.
Learning
by three steps to peer editing and things to remember
from this video and  this power point helps me when I will comment for my classmates although I did not know what it means to peer editing and how to do it.

Actually, I learned three steps to peer editing, compliments, suggestions, and corrections with some examples on each step. In the first step, compliments, I have to stay positive. I should think of how I would feel if someone tell me what needed to be improved in my writing. I learned I should always start peer editing with compliments by telling classmates what I they do well. These sites provided me examples of expression of compliments, so it easy for me to comment for classmates accurately and encourage them attempt to change to their writing. In the second steps, suggestion, I learned I should stay positive and be specific when I give some specific ideas how to make classmates' writing with some examples of expressions of suggestions. Additionally I learned I can make suggestions to some points such as word choice, using details, organization, sentences, topics. I think I have to need more language skills to make suggestion. In the third steps, corrections, I learned I can check and correct my classmates' writing at several points such as missing punctuation, grammar mistakes, incomplete or run-on sentences, and/or spelling mistakes.

2-a. Technology in Special Education

Lacey Cook is a special education teacher and show success technology in special education.
She said technology help students participation. Her students are many of whom are nonverbal and have physical and cognitive limitations. Without technology life can be difficult for teachers and students because her students can not concentrate to read without any technology in her class. Using various technology such as laptops, iPod, PowerPoint presentations has positive changes to teaching and learning process.

She provide some students to demonstrate technology in special education classroom. First, Corbin could not attend in silent reading class because he went to the hallway and needed assistant for him to read his books. However, iPod touch audio books help him to take silent reading exciting, effective, independent, and best of all Corbin and to attend with his classmates. Importantly, he can not only take silent reading effective but also join with his classmates and attend to classes together by using technology. This communication to his classmates is important for student.
Second, a few continuous students are autistic who have difficulty with making a communication, speaking and writing. Kris, the first student, used "word board" which is too hard for him to use. In contrast, he enjoy computer. It is sometimes difficult for teachers to understand what he want to say but he can talk to teachers better when he uses a computer. In addition, other students can communicate with teachers and students, read, write, and participate to class better when they use technology like laptops and PowerPoint presentation by teachers.

2-b. How the iPad Works with Academics for Autism

First, I will teach in Japan after graduating here, so I found the app which I can teach English as second language for students in special education classroom because children have to learn English and complete it as second language for their future in Japan.
"Adventure For Kids"  is an app that I found for the affordable price of $3.99 on iTunes. This app can help children get interest in studying English and improve their hearing and speaking skills through the game. This app has a variety of category such as space, farm, city, zoo, and so on. Through the game, my students can be eager to learn English and study it more. By the use of repetitive sound and visual imagery, they can hear and read until they can learn vocabulary completely. I will be able to help children develop a basic English vocabulary, word relationship with themed adventure category, increased retention skills through the use of repetitive visual imagery and sound, and improved hand-eye coordination by the use of "Adventure for Kids."

Vicki Davis had a small school in rural Georgia. She is a teacher and IT director. She can use every kind of technology. She can teach wikis, blogs, podcast, virtual world. She focus on teaching how students are learning software, using Wiki, having their blog effectively, collaborating effectively, so she help her students use any technology comfortably. In her class, students can learn virtual life program which help teaching. So many teachers think it know everything before we can teach. Absolutely, the wrong thing is thing.
Students can learn researching, writing, posting through digital coders. By the use of technologies,  students and teachers can be up blog and share ideas.

In addition, she creates Flat Classroom Project. On this project, students lets study in experience trans information of technology by creativity, report to other students, and creating a video. by this project, they experience trans and  learn about tans in them worldwide. Therefore, she got connection to the world and she got children the whole new perspective and possibility what's out there. she believe that all the ideas of sought trans to school are up and down there in power students share with one another.

C4T Post#1:
2012 K-12 Horizon Report
Posted by Allanah King

Mrs. King wrote about The Advisory Board in The Horizon Report, a group of leading educators who gather their knowledge and expertise to predict what education will go in the near future to the future. They identified that students will bring their own mobile devices and apps in common to learn, that more classes will use online class, hybrid learning, and collaborative models, that students can connect to the world via internet, and that students can learn and study whenever and wherever they want. She introduced technology tools in this video.

This video shows more detailed information about the following:
Near Term Horizon:
Mobile devices and apps
Tablet computing
Mid Term Horizon:
Game-based learning
Personal Learning Environments
Far Term Horizon:
Augmented Reality
Natural User Interfaces

This video shows k-12 students are learning and studying by the use of each technology above. The students in this video enjoyed learning and using the technology tools such as iPad, computers, iPod touch, and tablet. I  am looking forward to coming such future sooner and I think I have to master these technology to teach my students in the future.
