Did You Know? 3.0 - A John Strange 2012 Version
Did You Know? 3.0- A John Strange 2012 Version are made by John Strange based on Did You Know? 3.0 researched by Karl Fisch and Scott McLeod. This video show that knowledge about developing English and technologies which educators have to know before teaching.
First, in this video, John Strange compared students' IQ between India and the United State. 25% of the population of India with the highest IQ outnumber the extra of the population of the US. In addition, It is estimated that 18 million Chinese speak English now and 300 million are learners, so the learners who learn English completely there will be more people in China speaking English than the entire population of the US. Therefore, English is common language in the world and educators should have a great skill to teach English.
Second, the video show teachers get skills with the development of technologies such a computers and cellphone. he said how many people use YouTube video. In one minute, 1097220 YouTube videos are watched. 1393519 searchers are made on Google every minute. Additionally, he show how many students use email and SMS messenger and how long students spend time to do it. In the same minute, 11453577 SMS messengers are sent world wide. 2years ago the Kaiser Family Found reported that 7th-12th graders in the United State sent about 189 SMS messages a day. They spent 1 hour and 56 minutes to do it. That was 2 years ago, so it is more now.2 years ago 93% of all 8-18 years old in the US had computers in their homes. 2 years ago 85% of high school students (15-18 years old) had cell phone.
Finally, the US Department of Labor estimates that today's learners will have 10-14 jobs by age 38. The top job from now do not exist you and will use technologies that have not yet been invented. He indicates that an educator should prepare their students for the jobs in the future and prepare them to use technologies that do not yet exist. Moreover, he indicates that educators should achieve mastery of technologies and have a more skills to teach.
I agree with this video. teachers should master technologies like computers and cellphones to teach their students them. I think there is no student who be not able to use a computer and cellphone in the future and most of our students have jobs that need to use them. Therefore, we need to teach our students to them and to help them master them.
Mr. Winkle Wakes
Mr. Winkle Wakes video was created by Mathew Needleman. This short video starts Mr. Winkle come out of deep sleep over 100 years. He found many dramatic changes what he had never seen when he went outside his room. First, when he went to office building, he saw many busy workers and strange sound which he had never seen and heard before. He saw the machines print out pictures and documents instead of papers. business people spoke to other business people across the world and saw each other too through small scream. He had never seen everything 100 years ago and the world too much change. Second, he went to hospital because he feel sick because he face dramatic changes. He saw men and women capitalize on machines such as X-ray, laser, surgery which he had never thought even possible before. Third, he went to school. students saw a teacher who lecture in front of class, read, listen, and take notes who a teacher said. He thought these things are familiar. However, he saw a machine which he found at office and hospital. He understand the world become changed dramatically with the development of technologies but some unchanged things remain inside of school.
What does this video tell us? I think teachers should use technologies fully to lecture their students because they need to master technologies to get jobs after a few decade in the more developing world. However, I think students have to get skills to read, listen to what teachers said, take a note because they can get other skills to concentrate, speak, write, and so on. Therefore, I think our students need to learn by these familiar things while teachers should innovate new technologies which students must need in the future and teach them how to use them.
Sir Ken Robinson: The Importance of Creativity
he talk about education and children's creativity. he call for that creativity is as important in education as literacy and we should treat it with the same status. he said children obtain their creativity from drawing, art, music, dance, and drama.
he tell us kids' creativity. he said they are not frighten he tell us three themes. The first theme is the extraordinary evidence of human creativity in the all of presentations that we've had and in the all of people in education. And just a variety of it and a range of it. The second theme is that creativity is put us in a place where we have no idea what's going to happen in the future and how this may play out.The third theme is on rally extraordinary capacities that children have for innovation. All kids have tremendous talents but we mess up on them. In addition, d of being wrong. Although he does not mean to say that being wrong is the same thing as being creative, we will never come up with anything original if we are not prepared to be wrong. By the time kids got to be an adult, most kids have lost that creativity. He said that we regard mistake as the wrong thing now and we are running national education systems where mistakes are the wrong thing you can make, so educators are out of their creative capacities. Finally, he tell us we have to rethink the functional principle on which we are educating our children.
I agree with him. Now, education systems are at the tops are mathematics and language, then humanities, the bottom are arts, music, drama. I think they are going to become text head if they get a skill of literacy by studying mathematics and language like now. And so they are unlikely to adapt a variety of aspects and they can not make a imagination which others can not do. Children need to get these capacities to have a great one, get more skills. work in the future. Therefore, I think education systems should attach s high value to creativity.
Think about the FUTURE:
A Day Made of Glass 2
A Day Made of Glass 2: Unpacked. The Story Behind Corning's Vision.
Project Glass: Live Demo at Google
First, A Day Made of Glass2 achieving a great success in technology opened to public by Corning. This video states Corning's glass skills are available in various areas such as home, school, office, and medical front. A Day Made of Glass 2: Unpacked. The Story Behind Corning's Vision provides a detailed explanation about how the glass technology affects and support our life at present and in the future. Next, Project Glass: Live Demo at Google moves people who watch this video because it shares live broadcast of skydiving and mountain bike by the use of wearable computer glass.
I was surprised in these video and excited about coming such future. In education, it is easy for teachers to lesson and for student to understand what they are learning because display can be placed not only for teachers but for every students and every tablet can communicate and be useful as PC device. Students can organize schedule easily by the tablet and display in home and school. In addition, school will be able to get tablets and displays and place them easily because large-scale, seamless, low-profile, industrial-strength glasses consume low power and install small size OS. Now, some schools use homeroom activity table made by large-scale, seamless, industrial-strength, multi-touch. It gives students joy to learn. The technology can help students enjoy learning.
In addition, the glass technology can help us be possible to reuse and resume more in the future because Corning improves solar cells and solar panels system. Solar cells in roof will be low cost and high efficiency in the future. Besides, it will be one of architectural material in the future. Therefore, school and we will be able to support energy by oneself & provide it. In Japan, the solar cell and panel system in home become more prevalent. Home placing the system can support energy by oneself. In addition, power produced by solar cells and panels in houses is purchased by electricity company.

Keiko,
ReplyDeleteYour post was very well written and you did a great job of relating to the post! You added your own opinions and personal experience to the post instead of just summarizing. You had a lot of great ideas and seem to care a lot about being an educator! I think it is really interesting to hear the perspective of someone from a country that is very different from the United States. I'm sure you will do well as an educator wherever you decide to teach- either the U.S. or Japan :)
Be sure to add alt and title modifiers to all your pictures. The directions on how to include these are in the instruction manual.
Keep up the good work!
